The adventures of Madeleine,
the 5 Euro bill
Updated:  scroll down...
This winter two (cute) French girls came to my shop
and bought a couple caramel mochas.  They didn't
speak very much English so asking them if they
wanted whip cream on their mocha's was an
interesting game of charades, but I managed to make
a couple drinks close to what they wanted (I hope).  I
got a "merci beaucoup" out of it anyway.

When I told them how much the drinks were, one of
the girls held up a 5 Euro banknote and looked at me
questioningly.  I'll never understand how they were
getting by in Bend on only French, let alone expecting
to pay at places in Euro.  Luckily they happened upon
the only coffee shop in Bend that happily accepts
Euro.  The exchange rate actually worked out in my
favor come to think of it.

But anyway, the 5 Euro note in the pictures is the one
that they gave me and I've recently decided that when
I'm in France sometime this Spring I'm going to take it
into a French coffee shop and try one of their caramel
mochas and see how it compares to mine.  Once I
have some pictures of that leg of the journey I'll post
them here.  It seems like I've had the 5 Euro bill
forever and it ended up taking the name Madeleine.

Check back later to see if Madeleine makes it to France...
Post France Update!
Madeleine has finally made it to Paris France!  She also made it to about 21 other
countries before reaching France.  As I mentioned in my updates, I wasn't able to find
a place selling caramel mochas in Paris so I ended up finding a Starbucks where I
ordered a Caramel Mocha.  Sadly, somewhere the "mocha" part of my order got lost
in the translation and I ended up with a Caramel Macchiato (to which I later added
chocolate from Latvia to get the desired mocha flavor).  I was kind of relieved to get rid
of the bill because I was always afraid that I would get my wallet stolen somewhere and
would never get her back to France.
Here are a few pictures from her journey:

Where did I find a Caramel
Mocha in Paris?
Thank you French girls!
But the ones I sold you were better ;)
